Home Builders Federation advises conversions for multiple improvements

According to Dave Mitchell, Technical Director for the Home Builders Federation, Britons should consider home conversions to benefit themselves in a multitude of ways and create new, exciting opportunities for themselves as homeowners.

Garage and spare room conversions can double as home offices or studios, rooms for loved ones needing home care or elderly relatives, spaces for entertaining family and friends or just relaxing, and even for opening up existing small spaces and enlarging areas by simply cutting an archway through an existing wall.

For as many spare, unused spaces as some homes currently have, there are an infinite number of possibilities for which to renovate those dead spaces. Such renovations usually add value, functionality and beauty to homes.

Moreover, with the advent of the Internet, conversions to offices or studios can facilitate working from home and are environmentally-friendly. Home workers will find they have more time, energy and will save on the expense of daily commuting. Employers should be heavily encouraged to allow employees to telecommute, whenever possible.

One way of funding such renovations is to obtain a home loan, which will release the equity in a property to provide the cash needed.

“There should be more moves to perhaps encourage people to work from home,” Mr. Mitchell advised. “If you can work from home, you’re reducing your carbon footprint, so isn’t it a good idea?”

A secured home loan can easily provide the funds needed for a range of possibilities and open brand new avenues for homeowners to pursue.
